It has an oval body, a small head, and a big mouth. It has a large gill operculum on the lower part of the spine, directed towards the back.
Significantly, the dorsal fin concerns the first three spines, which are not entirely covered by the membrane and can be directed forward and used as a defensive weapon, like the spine.
As the name suggests, it has a bichromatic yellow and blue coloration. It lives alone or in pairs, more rarely in groups. In case a male of the group is missing, one of the females changes sex to replace him.
This species is peaceful with most of the species that populate the barriers. However, I advise against placing it in an aquarium with other Centropyge, even different species.
It can create problems with corals and tridacna in an aquarium, damaging the polyps and the mantle, respectively. An aquarium to be suitable for breeding should: have at least a capacity of 250 liters and an abundance of live rocks.
Create many ravines: considering these specimens’ character is fundamental (will use them as hiding places if scared). Angelfish is an omnivorous species and can be fed with Artemia, Algae, dry, coarse food, and boiled zucchini wheels.
The female of this species reproduces by laying and dispersing her eggs. According to recent studies, the female lays a certain number of eggs daily for a while. Although this species is reproduced in professional breeding farms, most of the market specimens come from catches in the wild.
