A Brief Story of Aquaman
Aquaman’s story is vibrant and sophisticated, with adventures full of mythology and golden ages in his career during his more than 75 years of existence.
Discover with us the essential moments of the character and curiosities that almost nobody knows about the King of Atlantis!
Aquaman was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris and first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 (1941), at the height of the Golden Age of American comics.
Among the various stories that appeared in the comic (including the first appearance of Green Arrow), it does not introduce a superhero with a superhuman strength derived from his Atlantean origin.
The power was able to swim at high speeds and talk to marine animals telepathically, a power that Geoff Johns would use quite ironically 70 years later.
His enemies, typical at that time, were the Nazis, whom he would confront in the marine environment by shooting down different Axis submarines.
And so would continue their appearances in the same headline and later in Adventure Comics, where he would have the opportunity to take the lead in many of its issues along with Green Arrow itself.
His appearances in Adventure Comics were numerous. It is precisely in this header to establish its official origin: Aquaman is the son of Tom Curry and Atlanna, an Atlantean princess.
Shortly after, in the middle of the Silver Age, the character got his first headline in 1962.
As principal authors, Jack Miller and Nick Cardy would share adventures with Mera, the love of his life, and Aqualad, Garth’s superheroic identity.
It would be his sidekick for many years and face one of his primary villains: Ocean Master.
