The car as we know it today was invented in Germany in 1886 by Carl Benz. Shortly afterward, other pioneers, such as Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, presented their models.
With the three-wheeled Benz Patent Motor Car Number 1, the German inventor Carl Benz rang in the birth of the modern automobile with a combustion engine in 1886. At that time, the “Triciciclette” was powered by a forerunner of the petrol engines still in use today.
Almost at the same time and entirely independently of Benz, Gottlieb Daimler from Cannstatt also constructed a vehicle for the sale of which he founded the Daimler-Motoren Gesellschaft.
The merger did not take place until four decades later: in 1926, the two German car manufacturers merged to form Daimler-Benz AG. Daimler had already developed the first motorcycle (1885) and the first motorboat (1886).
When Henry Ford launched in Detroit the first car manufactured in a chain (“Ford T”), the problem of color did not arise, because, for the first car factory to work, it was necessary to save as much as possible.
Paradoxically, the Ford T prototype was red. This car combined simplicity, reliability, and low price. Henry Ford’s dream of starting up the production of vehicles for the whole world came true: the Americans acquired more than 15 million units of the Ford T, the best-selling series in the automotive world.
Many mobility concepts had their origins very early on. For example, Audi’s predecessor company NSU presented 8/24, the first car with an aluminum lightweight body, as soon as 1913.
This design did not go into series production at Audi until 1999 with the Audi A2. The Lancia Lambda from 1922 was the first car with a self-supporting body. This lightweight and low-cost design have since become the standard.
It took another 26 years after the invention of the automobile anyway, until Henry Ford laid the foundation for the successful mass production and dissemination of the car in 1913 with the assembly line production of the Ford Model T.
Here are the types of cars:
Tourism is Cars from different segments (global), from city cars to luxury sedans. They are available with two and four side doors, and with different bodywork: hatchback, liftback, sedan, and family car. Designed for passenger transport, with a maximum capacity of nine seats.
Minivan is an excellent car in which the engine compartment, the cab, and the boot are integrated into one. They have been gaining popularity lately, especially among families with several children, because of the high number of seats these cars offer.
Coupé is a car with two side doors whose rounded roof falls slowly, accompanied by the shape of the rear glass and the trunk lid. They usually accommodate two or four people.
Convertible is a car similar to a coupe, but instead of a fixed roof, it has a folding hood, usually made of canvas or plastic. They have two or four seats and a generally reduced trunk, which, when the awning is retracted, is even smaller. One current trend is the coupé Cabrio, which has a rigid folding roof.
The sports car is designed for driving at high speeds on public roads. It usually has better acceleration, maximum speed, adherence, and braking than other vehicles.
The sports car is achieved using specialized engines, brakes, suspension, gearbox, tires, chassis, and bodywork. The most natural bodies are coupé and convertible; in the latter case, the models are popularly called “roadster”.
Van is a motor vehicle for transporting objects or groups of people, with side doors that usually slide. They are structurally similar to minivans, although they have some differences.
Off-road is the vehicle specially designed for land, sand, stone, and water surfaces on steep up and down slopes. They have the necessary mechanisms for this type of driving, such as four-wheel drive and gear reduction.
The center of gravity is shifted downwards so that the car can be tilted sideways to a certain angle. The English term for off-road is the off-road vehicle. These cars are also known as 4×4, pronounced “four by four”.
