Archaeological studies reveal later domestication than other animals. It is around the fifth millennium BC in the eastern steppes of Asia. At the same time, in Europe, it would begin to see not before the third millennium BC.
It is assumed that the domestication has occurred from an extinct subspecies of the Asian steppes, the Tarpan. It is used as a draught horse, saddle horse, and, recently, pet.
It can become wild and survive independently in the wild.
Result of a long and well-known evolution, the horse has a high morphological and functional specialization to the environment of open spaces such as grasslands.
In particular, it has developed an efficient locomotor system and a digestive system suitable for feeding with stiff grasses supplemented with small amounts of leaves, twigs, bark, and roots.
