The story of Inuyasha begins with Kagome, a 15-year-old girl who lives in a Shinto temple with her father, mother, and younger brother.
Kagome discovers a passage to return to the past. She lands in the same place, a few centuries earlier, in the middle of a forest. From there, the whole story begins.
At this point, Kagome meets Inuyasha, who is nailed by an arrow to the sacred tree. Inuyasha is a strange individual with long white hair, a red tunic, and peculiar dog ears.
Inuyasha means “divine spirit dog” because he is a half-demon, son of a dog demon and a human woman.
The villagers arrive at the place and look at Kagome in amazement, and after tying her up, they bring her to the presence of Kaede, sister of the deceased priestess Kikyo.
Kagome bears a striking resemblance to the priestess, and Kaede recognizes her as the reincarnation of Kikyo, who died fifty years earlier.
Kagome is attacked by the centipede monster that had dragged her into the well, so she flees into the woods for safety, arriving near the sacred tree.
Here Inuyasha begs her to free him from the arrow that is nailing him to the tree to help her.
Despite the men of the village and Kaede trying to dissuade her, Kagome frees Inuyasha, who soon manages to defeat the monster.
From Kagome comes out the four spirit sphere, the object the monster wanted to get possession of, which increases the demon’s power which comes into possession of it.
Later Kagome understands that Inuyasha also wants to take possession of the sphere, and that’s why he was imprisoned by the priestess Kikyo.
But Kaede immediately provides to keep him at bay by formulating magical words that, if pronounced, would have thrown him to the ground: the name in question is “down!”, just as you do for a dog.
After several events, she finds herself forced to search for fragments of the Shikon pearl, a magical object coveted by demons, in the company of Inuyasha, the hanyo *half-demon*.
Although they do not appreciate each other very much initially, they get to know each other through the course of the story.
They then meet new companions, starting with Shippo, the little orphaned fox, followed closely by the perverse monk Miroku and his terrible Kazaana. One of the last survivors of a Youkaï hunting village, Sango.
All of them left together to defeat the terrible Naraku, who is also after the pearl of Shikon.
